have not noticed anything but then again have not uninstalled 3311 or r2 . I've had install issues with rc1 in my user mode with admin rights.
Have not had issues installing logged in as admin. I read something in PCworld about the final release there is going to be a 30 day activation

So has anybody seem any hic ups from loading the SP3???? I'm trying to see if it has problems before I load it.....
Hi Skinny, No problems to report.
If you keep your computer updated regularly through Windows Update SP3 is officially released through Windows Update, and you'll only get what you need for your configuration, thats the route I took because my machine was already up to date with all the past available SP2 updates.
Takes about an hour going that route but the download is less than 70mb compared to over 300 for the full covering everything stand alone installation pack that this thread links to.
When SP2 was released the only people running into trouble were the ones that hadn't had their machines updated before installing the SP2, so SP3 may have the same qualifications but if you go through Windows Update if anything is needed prior to installing SP3 it will install that first.
IMO thats the safest route to install it!
Have a great day man!!! Ry

AV, I'd swear that one with the arm tattoo is the girl I work with, but I don't think she has ever worked on a Linux box...

I've installed SP3 (the full .exe file) on 2 machines now (2 days) and haven't seen any problems. Printer, scanners, speakers/headsets, etc all work fine. Programs I've used are good.
My one complaint is that SP2 rolled up all the previous hotfixes and cleaned up all those uninstall files in the Windows folder. SP3 didn't on my machines. There were something like 95 patches (with their uninstall files) after SP2, and I was hoping that they would be cleaned up by SP3, but it didn't happen. At least, when I reinstall, I'll just load my XP Pro w/SP2, then just load SP3 (if I don't slipstream it).

I didn't notice any speed boost. In fact, until I cleaned up the temp files and junk (CCleaner) and defraged, I sensed a slowdown. Might just be the security apps I have running, don't know. A reinstall should tell someday.

how do you measure that? does you friend time how long it takes to do certain things and keep records and then compare with after the update or is it a before and after thing?

Wow, Ive seen a bost in switch rates from FS to window on video, IE (yea yea, I know, IE sux) open and refresh, corel open rate, word open. A lot of it looks like improvements to video rates.
I don't know if I told you, but the Applebee's out here actually has really good AYCE fish on Friday.

Just been reading a couple of tech sites and found this on SP3 (www.computerworld.com)
Quote :
According to Johansson, there appears to be two separate issues. One affects only AMD-equipped PCs sold by Hewlett-Packard Co. "The problem is that HP, apparently along with other OEMs, deploys the same image to Intel-based computers that they do to AMD-based computers," said Johansson. "Because the image for both Intel and AMD is the same, all have the intelppm.sys driver installed and running. That driver provides power management on Intel-based computers. On an AMD-based computer, amdk8.sys provides the same functionality."
Running the intelppm.sys driver on an AMD-powered PC isn't normally an issue, but on the first reboot after a service pack installation, it causes "a big problem," Johansson said. The machine either fails to boot or crashes and immediately reboots.
The other problem, according to Johansson, also seems to affect only AMD machines, and involves an error message indicating trouble with the PC's BIOS. Johansson said that the ensuing recommendation to update the BIOS is "most likely not your problem," but said that the problem may be isolated to a specific motherboard. "Possibly, it is related to computers with the Asus A8N32-SLI Deluxe motherboard in them," he said.
Any of you guys used SP3 on an AMD system and seen anything like this?

Thats weird Jake mine are gone, but I did use the Windows Update to install the SP, thats the only difference.

After 48 hours of trying to download SP3 ISO and tripping over a tree stump in disbelief...the SP3 ISO file finally downloaded in less than 90 minutes last night.

Has anyone had trouble viewing / editing / taking videos & using them with whatever after loading SP3?????
I haven't had such a problem, but movies & songs seem to be the problem form someone I know thats, well, having problems..... He loaded SP3 & can't access anything he had in XP or ubentu.... I haven't heard / seen this problem anywhere on the web.... I've done several searches but can't find it anywhere..... Everything I've got plays like it did before SP3.....
Any help here would be appreciated...... I can't believe it isn't happening to everyone if it was a DRM thing in SP3....

Hmmmm....DRM rearing its ugly little head? Or maybe something else.....Did this guy have his folders options set to "show hidden files"? I had a little prob after SP3, whereI could not see some stuff on external drives because the file viewing options had been reset for hidden files. 5 seconds of diddling in the 'folder options' solved that problem.
The only video problems I've heard of involve ATI cards. If he's got one, try uninstalling completely (ie - Driver Cleaner) and installing the newest driver. If that doesn't work, then maybe try an older driver.
A quick google is showing video problems seem to be with Catalyst 8.3.
8.4 should be on ATI's site now, and 8.5 should be out this month.
I'm not sure about hidden files... He does run various partitions, fat 32 included, in order to dual boot with Linux.... Claims that Sp3 shut down all movies hes taken & any new DVDs in both Windows & Linux because of DRM in SP3..... I've searched extensively on the web & come up with nothing....
@ exit2dos
He's got a Nivida card just below a 8600... I'm not sure about the number...
Like I say, I can't duplicate the problem on my end & I can't find any trace of it anywhere.....

Running fat 32 eh? Any of his 'files' bigger than 4 gig? I havent had any DRM issues, buta lot of my ripped DVD files are larger than 4 gig....wouldnt work under fat 32 because of the file size limit. Gotta be on NFTS.
