I have two 250gb drives that are almost full and I've been thinking about compressing some of the files that don't need to be modified very often (i.e. movies, pictures, porn...)

Does anyone know of a good app that can compress alot a data into not very much space? Or that has the best compression ratio?

It has to be freeware or else I might as well just go out and buy another drive.

The type of data you're talking about will not compress very well (if at all) with any compression program. .avi, .jpg, .mpg, etc. file types are all already compressed internally.

WinRAR is a great compression program, but like SomeJoe7777 said, you won't be able to save much space from compression.

If you want to buy a new hard drive, which is your best option, in my signature is a link to the best $/GB hard drives.

I agree with sithscout80, and another suggestion is burn rarely used datas as in old music, old video clips[porn ], softwares... onto dual-layer DVDs if you have one.

Yeah...that's what I was afraid of. I had already tried some programs and they'd compress, for example, 20Gb to 19.8Gb.

I think I'll just throw on another 250Gb.

Thanks guys.
