If I buy

2x512 MB of 675mhz (PC2 5400) DDR2 Ram, (See: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?item=N82E16820145539)

am I better off with a Conroe C2D 6300 or 6400 for overclocking? I've never overclocked, despite building a TON of systems (Always felt the risk wasn't worth it, in the past). Which should I buy to get a faster but more importantly, stabler system. I really don't care if the 6300 can give me 2 more mhz if it cuts off any time from the life of my computer. Making sure I don't fry it or anything is vital to me.

I only ask with such urgency because I want to get a weekend deal for some stuff and shipping cupons in at NewEgg and if I don't get advice tonight, I may miss out.

Thanks everyone!

If you don't want to overclock your CPU too much, then it's better to get the E6400 since it has a higher clock multiplier. That means you don't need to push the FSB too hard to achieve the same speed as an overclocked E6300.

Thanks. Appreciate the advice. Didn't know if the 6300 could get close without having to push it too much and save the $30

E6400 has an 8x multiplier which makes it much easier for the ram to overclock.

Consider 667 mhz ram minimum, maybe 800 mhz if u can get it for a deal, OCZ usually have some good deals.
