Hi, I've finally decided to build a new pc . Probably have a limit of around $800, will be reusing monitor, mouse, speakers and a dvd burner. Can anyone give me any suggestions as to what products would work well with what? I don't go much on gaming, 1280x1024 resolution is perfect since my monitor's (samsung 740n) native is at that.

maybe gonna get an e6300 and a gigabyte 965 s3 to start with, I'm not sure what's good in the ram and video card market though.

As long as you're not gonna overclock - any ram should do. Any performance difference caused by default timings will be miniscule.

go with core 2 duo and a decent motherboard, and a video card from x19x0 series by ATI. Obvioulsy, 8800 is out of reach with an 800 budget, and 7600 a 7800 are outdated compared to ATI's architecture.

How bout going for x1950pro? I heard it was pretty good. Anyway, I won't be upgrading the video card until the 2nd generation arrives. Thing is if it would fit my budget hehe.

The 1950pro is a great board for a good price. If you have $800 then perhaps you should go with the E6400, 2gb value 553 or 667ram and the gigabyte S3 or the biostar Tforce 965PT.

That should be around $700 which leaves you $100 for a harddrive

Here's what I've pulled out so far:

Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 320GB 7200 RPM SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive $94.99
POWERCOLOR X1950 PRO $219.99
pqi TURBO 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 667 $212.99
GIGABYTE GA-965P-DS3 Socket T $134.99
Intel Core 2 Duo E6300 $181.00

Which puts me at $843.96
I'll be able to stretch my budget at $900, is there a power supply you guys could recommend that could provide enough and still be stable and efficient at around $60?
Oh and can you recommend any kind of ram besides that one?
