I was bored today and was just messing around to see what there was to do on a student account.

I looked in "My Network Places" and there was an option that said "Add a Network". I figured if the school was cautious enough to disable the right click button, they certainly wouldn't let me add a network. Well, I was wrong. It let me add ftp.microsoft.com to my network places.

When i click on the folder I get this...

I opened the folder Softlib and got another folder....

And finally when I opened that folder I saw roughly a little over 1000 .Exe files.

Does anyone know what ftp.microsoft.com is for? And why it would be on a network?

Judging by the dates on some of the stuff in there it looks like an old repository for drivers, updates, patches, etc. Probably from the good ol days of dos :)

Yep, your probably right. Before I deleted the network I found a folder that said "y2kfix". Here's to hoping I can find a better FTP to put on the network.....
