Hi I have recently built the following system:
E6600 C2D
2GB Corsair DDR2 Dominator Ram
8800GTX
Viewsonic 22" monitor VX2235wm
Seagate 3.5" HDD SATA-300 Seagate 320GB 7200rpm 16MB
Case ANTEC P180B
ASUS P5B Deluxe/WiFi
DVD Burner/RW LiteOn
My problem is that it will sometimes not recognize the DVD burner?
I've tried a different burner and get the same problem.
Most times just restarting the computer fixes it but I can't work out why it's happening in the first place?
Can anyone please help with this?

what OS are you using
Vista beta and rc1 have some proplems with
some dvd burners and the file system used
rebooting sometimes helps as it recreates a last used
log (???) and works
supposedly fixed in RTM

Using XP, I just noticed that when it doesn't work it's listed in device manager as an SCSI drive but the technical spec's for it list it as an IDE drive...is this where the problem is?

ratty05
in older mobo's it was normal for the cd-rom's and dvd's to
be listed under scsi devices but for modern,,last 4 or 5 yrs
should be under cd and dvd section in the device manager
is their conflicts as per mplichfamily although plug and play should normally take care of that
my guess is bad drive or controller
