Hi guy,

was wanting to get some feedback on somthing. I have been wanting to get a new NIC for sometime now I am just using the one on my mobo for now. The reson is when I use bittorrent everytime i donload maybe 2 or 3 things at once my internet disconnects. can connect back up to it just fine but it only seems to be an issue with that because it will not disconnect in any other situation. tried wile vconnected to my hub and directly connected to the computer. Read on the Azureus form that it could be a limitation of the NIC itself and ofered some settigs to help and they have but the speed is not that great. Tried even updating the NIC drivers to the latest but still same thing so this is the reson why i want to get a new NIC but am looking for advise to see if i can find a way to tell which one to get without being in the same situation

Thank you

I have never heard of this problem, but since you do not use Ethernet to 'connect' to the Internet there is another problem.

So, how do you connect to the Internet? I can already assume you have high speed, but what type?

Does your ISP require special software (like SBC) to connect?

When your Internet connection disconnects, what happens, and how do you reconnect?

Yea I seen this on the Azureus forms and seems to work. I am using DSL high spped going threw a PPPOE connection and it is threw ethernet but most of the time connected threw a hub. basically a disconnected dialog box appears that i just click reconnect.

I am sorry to hear you connect with PPPoE. That is probably your problem, and not your NIC.

The problem with PPPoE is it basically emulates a dial-up connection over Ethernet. You end up with a dynamic IP address that can change whenever your ISP wants to change it. I had a friend that had SBC-Yahoo and his PPPoE connection dropped every 8-12 hours, many times while he was in the middle of a download or an online game! He finally paid the extra monthly fee to get a static IP address.

Or it could be your router crapping out on you. I've had that problem with torrents.

Best NICs are gigabit NICs from Intel. Look for the newer ones that support 802.3ad and all that jazz. Should be around 30-40 USD.

You may want to reduce your MTU. The max for PPoE is 1492. May drop it to 1400 and see if that helps.
