Currently I have an x800 pro, 1.5 Gb DDR, x2 4200.

Here is my dilemma:

Buy a x1950 pro for $200.
Pro: I'll be able to play my favorite game bf 2142 at 1600x1200 with everything on high.
Con: I'll have to upgrade for dx10 games.

Buy a 8800 GTS for $449.
Pro: I can play bf 2142 on max and be ready for dx10 games.
Con: Double the cost and something better may come around by the time crysis is out. Also it's possible that it may not be able to handle crysis or my cpu may not handle crysis. This is a gamble.


Wait you say? I can't. It's a Christmas gift.

Will a significantly better card (50%+ performance) appear before crysis is released?If a better card appears will my cpu be able to take advantage of it? As it is, my x2 4200 would limit the performance of an 8800 GTX.

If this card plays crysis maxed out then I won't even care if a better card comes out. Will it?

If my cpu is the problem then I'm done. I'll buy a ps3 and learn to love the controller and 6 buttons. I just upgraded a month ago! :x

usually the CPU takes the backburner to the videocard. It really just depends on whether the game utilizes more cpu or mose video card. as for the x1950 pro vs the 8800 gts I would go for the 8800 just because it is future proof. But since I don't have that much cash, I'd wait it out. It's price vs feature. If you have the cash for the 8800gts go for it.
