It is because graphics cores are just that much different than CPU cores?
Is it because Intel/AMD won't sell them the "secret" to 65 nm process tech? (goofy theory but meh)
or is it because graphics card technology is just too far behind CPU technology?

anyone have any ideas as to why they don't use 65 nm technology?

Splendid
Another reason is GPU's are made by 3rd part fabrication companies like TSMC. In other words, nVidia and ATI don't make their own GPU's. It's in TSMC's best interest not to shrink dies... the more dies they can fit on a wafer the less they can charge ATI and nVidia for making them.
