Okay, finally built my first c2d machine using EVGA's 680i reference motherboard... performance is great, but have a couple of issues with the layout but that is another story.

After I hooked everything up I must have spent at least an hour looking for an audio header to plug the cdrom into, reading manual, staring blankly at the board, etc. Finally I gave up, got windows installed and running and audio from the DVDrom drive works???

I have no problem with it working, I just want to know how/why as every other mb I have ever used has needed the audio cable plugged in to get sound from it. Are they using a couple of pins in the main ide connection?

Just curious, thanks.

hi,
no you donot need that cable any more becouse the sound chip links to the northbridge tat sends/recives the sound files from an cd/dvd .
so donot worry they only leave the connection on there for ppl who want to put the divice in an older computter.
greetings
