Hey guys i was curious to know if you could upgrade a prebuilt notebook computer such as an HP, Compaq, etc, with after market parts? I was thinking about buying the lowest end laptop from compaq and wanted to know what kind of processors does the onboard motherboard support??

You can swap out ram or hard disk in most laptops, but it's usually not easy to replace the processor.

Even if it can be done, the laptop might not be able to keep a higher speed processor cool.

Yeah, cheap laptops don't really come with a heatsink solution for more powerful CPUs. While the CPU can work, you might have overheating issues. That's not a good thing for a laptop.
