I heard somewhere that 975 chipset boards r good for E6600 and above cpus.. and P965 chipset boards are better for E6400 and below. Is this true? And why is that?

P965 is more of a budget all around mother board

but the 975 is more towards power users who want more options, like ATI crossfire and later on down the road crossfire with a pci-e physics cards ati is developing -more software developing then hardware

:D

if your not looking for a dual videocard solution then go with P965, if u want more options, tweaking, all around power go with 975

u can still get good results on a P965 with a 6600, P965 was built for Conroe

P5B-D..? i thought i wrote it up there.. oh, my bad.. i left out the D.. lmao.. But i was thinking P5B-D WiFi AP. This comp is mostly for gaming use, but my budget is around.. 5k-7k MYR, which translates into roughly 1.3k-1.9k USD. The current spec i'm looking at are E6600, P5B-D WiFi,
HIS 1650Xt 256mb DDR3, 2*512mb DDR2-800 RAMs (unsure of Kingston or Corsair), 450Watt PSU, Centurion 5 casing, W.D 320GB Sata 2. Please give your views and thanks in advance. Oh, and if the specs suk, sorry, coz i'm new to dis.. :D

But after reading some posts, I thought what if i went with E6400 and overclock it till 3.1ghz and above. If so, hw much power does my PSU have 2 supply and do i need any extra CPU coolers?

As CompuTronix said 975 are better in features and is overclocking friendly. P965 is a good desent board all around. I had Asus P965 paired with my e6600 i got it stable at 3.5 on air.

I would recommend the Asus P965, P5B or P5B deluxe Wifi your choice.
For the CPU - e6400 will do just fine unless you are willing to spend more $ for the extra mhz and 4MB of cache (e6600).
I would recommend a Corsair brand memory DDR2-800.
Video Card x1650xt is around $150, put in $50 bucks more and you can get a x1950pro which is a much better card. To me x1950pro is a steal.
PS at least 500W or 550 if posible. Just to stay on a safe side. Pick a well know brand like Enermax, Thermaltake, Antec, FSP.
You might want to look into better cooling for you cpu around $30-$35 will do just great.
Rest of your parts look ok.

every time I see someone with a blazing OC and a raid0 (AKA suicide raid!) All I can say is "I hope you dont keep important data on it and if you do you'd best be backing it up" hehe

I am seeing a mass exodus trend in people using corsair memory since they switched some of their most popular memories from Micron chips to some cheaper brand. I forget the name. For the price of corsair ddr2 800C4 you can get faster timing from lesser known brands like Patriot or GEIL or even ADATA. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16820211064 take the extra cash and put it toward a better vid card. Corsair is way to overpriced. IMO

There are so few DDR800 mems out that that actually run within JDEC specs its sick. This is one of them. I used to be a corsair fanboy but now I just look at what memory chips I will be getting if I buy a particular breed. IDK who puts there name on the PCB. The Best memory chips are made by MICRON

If you look closely at my sig, you'll see "1 Seagate 160 - Backup". It has equal 80Gb partitions, and each is a bootable clone of the RAID0 80Gb C:\ partition, which has the OS, all programs, as well as all data. The 300Gb RAID0 set also has a 220Gb storage partition loaded with copies of my 50 favorite DVD's. A clone of the C:\ system partition is performed weekly. Since the clones are alternated, each patition on the backup drive is overwriiten twice each month.

I take backups seriously. :!:
