So. I have an Nvidia 6600 GT - quite outdated now..
anyway, my setup is a Dell E521, again, not good for games really.
So i decide to get myself the Tomshardware reccomendation (btw, this is definitely not TH's fault what happens next), the Radeon x1950xt.

ITS HEEEAOWGE.
the biggest vid card i have ever seen. Doesn't fit by a mile.
So i've got to send it back to ebuyer BUT
my mum's card got lost so she cancelled it and so its going to be ages till she gets her refund and i get a new card.
ANYWAY.
what i need to ask you guys, is whether a leadtek Geforce 7950GT 256Ram will be able to be as good for my system as the Radeon might have been. I'm choosing this particular card because it doesnt need more than one PCI - E port, and was wondering if you guys could reccomend any other card that needs only one space that might be better.
Thanks, Raph

Actually, the x1900GT is a better performing card than the 7950GT and it's a single slot solution. I'd go w/ that card if I was you.

The 7950GT has only one advantage: HDCP support. But if you don't need that... then nevermind. :-)

is it? If you're looking for a card that only requires one PCI slot, then what is the best one to go for??
So far, i've looked at the X1950Pro and the 7950gt, as well as the X1900gt. out of those cards which do you reccomend??

It ultimately depends on the game. I guess if you did an average the x1950pro and 7950gt are about the same. It looks like the 7950GT does better at higher resolutions... and vice versa with the x1950pro.

If you're going to game @ >1280x1024, I'd get the 7950GT.

They're equally priced so...

Sorry if this is a stupid question, but you did say you're putting it in a dell... What power supply are you running?

Reply to Konut

That's a good question actually. According to this here product page, it has a 305W PSU. Which I doubt is enough for one of those cards.

Raph- You might encounter some PSU issues... but you won't know till you plug it in. At any rate it won't hurt to try. If it doesn't work, just upgrade ur PSU. According to the pic on the product page it looks like a standard ATX.

Uh yeah, I guarantee your Dell's power supply (305W) won't run any of those cards. Also, the X19xx cards are all that long... dude you got a Dell :?

The nVidia 8800GTX cards are pretty small... you may want to look into those.

But, in all seriousness, go for the X1950Pro in that price range. Just make sure you have the PSU to handle it ( >450W).

Funny that...
I went from a 6800GS to 1950xt... the cards were about the same size. Go figure.

As far as single cards go (as far as i know) the 3 cards that will beat a 1950xt are: 1950xtx and the 8800 brothers. So unless u get one of these u will be getting a slower card.

Also the psu... for newer cards u will need a special 6pin pci-e pwr cord. If your psu doesnt have one, chances are it cant support that card. U can always buy/make an adapter tho. 8800's? forget about it. With that cpu its like using a ferrari engine with bicycle tyres. Dood.. u got a Dell

"Looks like" doesn't guarantee anything with a Dell PSU. They have had connectors that look the same but have different wiring in the past. However, anything that's fairly new is supposed to be industry standard. Don't risk frying your mobo. Double-check your technical specs before you change your PSU.

oh yer, sorry, i forgot to mention that i bought a 650W power supply with the card that doesn't fit, so power isn't a problem.
I've been looking around the net, and found this card, the GeCube ATI Radeon X1950 Pro FZ SuperCooled, and i was wondering if you guys know whether i can fit this card with only one PCI slot..
thanks, R
