I have an ique 3600 Garmin GPS.

It uses a Palm Pilot which I am trying to load with stuff.
The Hotsync does not work. I think the problem is with
my PC rather than with the PDA. The PC will not
recognize that I have new hardware attached to a USB port.

Help please.

Make the Device Manager show hidden devices as well and then remove
the Palm device from the Device Manager. For details: "Device Manager
Does Not Display Devices That Are Not Connected to the Windows
XP-Based Computer" (http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=315539).
Restart Windows and then connect the Palm to the computer.

I went to device manager and, set it to show hidden devices,
but no Palm device shows up.

I went to your suggested URL and tried "Workaround".
Step 3 doesn't work because "The filename, directory name,
or volume label syntax is incorrect"

Now what?

Start the Device Manager via the Control Panel > System > Hardware >
Device Manager.
I would also check at www.palm.com for more help, since this may be a
problem with the Palm device and your Palm Desktop software and
drivers..

My problem was fundamental. I hadn't turned it on!!

When the Palm was first placed in the cradle the screen lit up but
the Operating System had not started. When I learned how to start it
the "New Hardware" was found.
