im building my first gaming system, and before i click on the "so long money" button on newegg i thought id ask for opinions on the rig im setting up. im not planning on OCing, or SLi just yet, but i want to leave open as many options as possible. im trying to cap off my spending at 1000 for these 4 items, the power supply, hard drive, case, and dvd drives i already bought.

cpu : core2 6400 http://www.newegg.com/product/product.asp?item=N82E16819115004

mobo " evga 122-CK-NF68-AR nforce 680i SLI http://www.newegg.com/product/product.asp?item=N82E16813188009

video card : Leadtek Winfast PX7950 GT
http://www.newegg.com/product/product.asp?item=N82E16814122012

ram : OCZ Platinum 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 http://www.newegg.com/product/product.asp?item=N82E16820227089
i checked on the evga website and this ram is compatible with the motherboard

the total comes out to just under 1000 like i aimed for. what does everyone think? any suggestions on anything better? i hope to click the "buyers remorse" button before the end of the day. thanks

while im sure that ram would work just fine on the evga motherboard it does not list on the evga website as compatible ram so i think i will stay on the safe side with the ram i originally intended. and since the motherboard is an SLI motherboard i want to stay away from an ATI videocard cuz i think sometime down the road i will SLI it. im within budget, the actual total before shipping is about 950 if i go a few bucks over i dont really care but thanks

Why go CrossFire on that?!? Might as well get an 8800 card for the price of 2 of those, it will spank a Crossfire setup. Not to mention 2 of those things will suck the power out of your neighborhood, heat your house, and sound like you live next to the airport. WOW. No way!

Stick with the 7950.

He isn't going SLI or Crossfire now.... He wanted that option for maybe later....

We all know that 8800gts is a better option, if he wanted, now....

ok then this may sound super noob but if you have an nvidia chipset, like a 680i, can you go crossfire with it? i always thought that you needed a crossfire chipset. yes i know, noobish...
