I have to build a new3d graphics workstation on the cheap.

Will the Opteron X2 work in a dual socket mobo?

I am hoping to just buy a slower X2 cpu and add a second later as funds allow.

If so any suggestions on which mobo?

Probably the best recent mobo is the ASUS with nVidia 3600. It's only $300. Th 2210 is about $200 so depending on how much you're willing to spend you may be able to swing both chips. The biggest expense will be the GPU.

The cheapest Quadros or FireGLs are about $350. You can get a non-pro card for less but you want the better drivers and feature sets.
