Anyone have an opinion on this matter??? Current technology make possible and I think even encourage people to download...Ex: high-speed Internet, blank CD/DVD, large HD capacities, MP3 players...
Now with this law pass, if people obey the law..I think stores will see a drop in blank CD/DVD sales...ISP may have user switch to simple high-speed Internet instead the package where u can have 100GB or more per month..Definitely will affect the stores & all Internet users who "use" to freebies..
Why would I have an opinion on the matter?? It's in Canada of all places.
I wish law enforcement agencies in Canada all the luck and I trust they will double or triple their budgets in order to actually enforce this legislation.

You're like the flu -- only the flu would be so concerned.

Ok Sir!
Using the net, creative people now have a drect outlet to their fans for themselves if they're technically savvy enough (or have someone do it for them). So the need for big publishers is declining. However everyone using the net for distribution of their work is facing the same problem: how to create a revenue stream while people can just share the content without any degradation to the content and without paying a penny?
Personally I'd favor a system where a tracking system is used to see which content is most popular (how often a copy is made) and based on those statistics content providers are reimbursed through a tax system (tax the use of the net through the ISP's). There's all kinds of issues that need to be taken care off to make this work but I think it is very doable.
There will still be corporations around to make the investments needed to come to prime content quality if content creators do not have the budget (including advertising) to invest themselves but at least there will be the freedom to go globa without a corporation "robbing" you.
O man... you've really hit the sauce, haven't you?
I must say, a night out with you on "De Wallen" sure is tempting... but you've got to act fast because they are really closing down on the Amsterdam right light district now.
Oh, just say to Pike we have the best quality of halucinating mushrooms over here and he'll come along I'm sure.
