System Errors

I have MS Excel 2000 and Word 2000 on Windows 2000.

Everything has been fine until yesterday when suddenly my macros in Excel no
longer run. I get an error message - System Error H80010108 (-2147417848)
when the macro runs then a message to say Excel has generated errors and must
close.

At the same time if I open a new Word document and type anything I get a
message to say Word has generated errors and must close.

I've checked for viruses etc. and all's clear and I haven't downloaded
anything so nothing should have interfered.

I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling Office 2000 and downloading the
Office Service Packs so everything should be up to date but the problem
remains.

It seems there must be a corrupt file somewhere in Windows but I've no idea
where to start looking. I'd prefer not to have to reinstall Windows so any
help would be gratefully received.

Thanks a lot
