Im using a Toshiba notebook M35X-S163 with a built in (Atheros)AR5005GS Wireless network adapter.
I dled the driver and it seems to installed ok but when I search for wireless networks it picks up nothing at all.
I know for a fact there is a wireless hotspot downstairs and another one it should also pick up. Also I have a wireless router at home that it doesnt pick up either. Any1 know what I can do to get it working? I can disable/enable to adapter without any issues and it seems to search like normal its just baffling me could the network protocols like tcp/ip QOS etc make a difference?
tcp/ip is the main one, required.
qos is only supported on some routers.
As far as picking up AP's. Look at the properties and see if it is set for 11b and 11g. Chanel should be auto. Some notebooks (mine is one of them) the wireless is so week it only work if I'm in the same room as the AP. I with a PCMCI card, now I have full house coverage.
Download a copy of NetStumbler and scan for signals, may take several minutes.
