Hello!

I was planning on getting either a 8800GTX or a 8800GTS, but I was not sure which I should buy.

For the $150 price difference, is the 8800GTX worth it?

My monitor supports a maximum of 1280x1024 resolution. My specs are as listed:

AMD X2 4600+
OCZ 2gb 1000mhz DDR2 RAM
Asus M2N-SLI Motherboard
XFX 7900gt XXX edition

Which should I upgrade to? or Should I wait for a price drop?

if you just had to get a dx10 card, the GTS, but I'd wait until the next batch of cards came out and prices dropped a little bit

Thanks for the quick replies!

I think I might go for the 8800GTS, but how well will it handle next-gen games on 1280x1024?

I agree with mapex. For that resolution & with the 4600, the GTS is even overkill except for Oblivion.

Check out tom's review of the 8800 series with the fastest desktop chip available, the X6800. It's rather enlightening. Here.

I'd wait for DAMMIT to get into the playing field and get a mainstream DX10 card. But if you just have to have it now, the GTS will be more than enough.

Btw, what's your PSU specs. You're probably fine but it doesn't hurt to supply them to be on the safe side.

Larger monitor would make a huge difference, if it's huge enough. :wink: Higher Native Res = More GPU Power Required. If your getting something 1920x1200 or higher, you could benifit from a better graphics card, otherwise it's overkill. Stick with what you've got. (BTW, you have too much money if your planning to upgrade your monitor and graphics. I am accepting charitable donations.)

GTS = 9"
GTX = 10.5"

Do some measuring.
