I have a standalone computer with cable as my principle conncection. I want to add a DSL connection so that if the cable connection dies, I'm automatically switched over to DSL. Is the only way to do this is to go through a dual-WAN router?

I've heard that you might be able to to this by simply adding a second NIC and then bridging the connection in XP Network Connections. Is this an alternative (and cheaper) method to the dual-WAN router?

I havent heard of that bridging idea in XP before but I dont think that would do it. A dual wan router would definatly be the best way to go if you want reliable automatic failover. There is probably a cheaper way to do it with software but it may require a computer running linux. I can't think of any automatic way of doing that in windows at the moment.
