The two 160GB IDE Seagates are working just fine for now.

But I'm using this as Video storage. (DVD jukebox)
So the speed of raid-0 is not really needed.

In JBOD if one drive dies, I should be able to revover files
from the drive that is still OK.

But is only possible to recover files if a dynamic disc is created with
Windows?

Right now the Spanning is created with Raid Bios.

It it worth it to use JBOD?, on avarage I should loose 50% of the files
But they can be covered from the original DVD.
Just less work to move 45 back compared to 90 disc.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm sure JBOD does not stripe or have any redundancy. If you want data security, I would suggest something other than JBOD. Maybe Raid 1 or a separate Backup drive?

I tested all possible configs.

Individual:......... 60-61 MB/s (those single platter 160gb are fast)

Bios Raid-0:......... 62 MB/s (I guess i'm reaching ata ide max)

Bios Jbod:............ 51 MB/s

Windows Jbod:......60 MB/s

So I will stick with Windows jbod,
I should be able to recover half of the files in a failure.

My system is on 2 80GB sata raid-0

From my limited understanding of things, RAID 0 is known as "Kamikaze RAID" due a complete loss of data in a crash. RAID 1 will protect you, as clob wrote. Don't know how to set any of it up, but that would be a safer bet then RAID 0.

Your assessment is correct.

JBOD does not stripe; you do not have data security on the one that may fail; and it's not fast.

BUT, it's just a storage system, so speed doesn't matter. You're looking for volume.

Go for it!
