good day guys!!! Im a newbie here so dont be hard on ok :D

just wanna know if I can use a cross-over cable on a router then the other end of the cable goes to the switch? I know most people use the straight cable im just thinking if it is possible. And if it is possible is there any advantages or disadvantages.

Most router are auto midi-x. So no advantage or dis-advantage.

as long as the ports can detect what cable is plugged in you shouldnt have a problem. Check the manuals to find out if the ports support this.

As noted in the other replies, auto midi-x will cover a great deal of evils. If the router or switch are new than a couple of years then it is very likely the have auto midi-x.

In days gone by, a crossover cable was required between like devices, PC to PC, switch to switch. Now it is simpler.

Think about this one.... What is the difference between a cross-over cable and a straight-through. The pin layout. Thus making no difference what so ever (speed wise).
