In order to get access to my 16bit apps MS Support tells me to first boot
from my XP cd. Except they won't tell me how to do that. Something to do
with the BIOS I gather. Any and all help greatly appreciated.

You need to enter setup and set the boot order to Floppy, CD drive, Hard
Drive. If the hard drive has a higher order than the cd the system will
never boot from the cd.

Only you know what motherboard and BIOS you have, so only you know
the answer to your question. ;-}
In the extremely unlikely event that your PC's manual or the
motherboard manufacturer's web site doesn't contain the needed
information, try one or more of the following:

Visit my website http://freespace.virgin.net/john.freelanceit/index.htm Click on the Win XP Faq button and take a look at question 13 'How do i
enable cd-rom support in the bios'
Hopefully that will give you the insight you need.

You need to set the boot oder to CD first in the BIOS setup
program. Then put the CD in the drive and reboot.
How to get into your BIOS depends, not on Windows, but on what
motherboard/BIOS you have. As a matter of fact, you have to
access the BIOS before Windows even starts to boot. One common
way is to press the Del key when you first power on, but that's
not necessarily right for your computer. Watch the screen
carefully when you first boot; there's often a message there
telling you what to do. If not, check your system documentation
or check with your vendor.
