Since moving into the country occasionally we have wildlife visitors, We live about a mile from protected wildlife land so we see Deer of all types local to our area, eat grass out of the back yard like its their second home and in a way it is. Wild turkeys running through the yard into the Sunflower field across from us, Rabbits, Birds of all types, and two days ago a dog.
But not a wild dog, this dog had a collar with no label of ownership, which is good for the owner because he or she would have gone straight to jail if the Sheriff could have determined where this dog had previously resided.
To look at this pitiful creature made my heart hurt, he was pure pronounced skin and bones, covered in fleas, and ticks, he was so weak and malnourished he could hardly walk.
What kind of people would allow an animal to get in this situation, the Sheriff suggested calling animal control and have them come out and pick him up, because he could even be rabid and they were better equiped to handle a case like this, the Sheriff would have had animal control out there himself but this happened on Sunday and Animal control was closed, unless the dog was attacking, but this dog couldn't hardly walk.
We fed him and he couldn't hold the food down, he threw it up and ate it again until he finally was able to hold it down, so sad!
It really bothered the hell out of me, sometimes I just don't understand why the hell some people chose for some stupid ass reason to decide to get a pet, if they're not going to take care of it!
When animal control came out and the lady walked around the house and saw the dog for the first time she gasped, "Oh My God, this is one of the worst I've seen!", I asked what they would do with him, and they take the dog to the humane society, check him for rabies and if he's OK, he's nursed back to health and adopted out, they do not kill them unless they're rabid.
What makes people with no sense of responsibility think they can own a dog or any animal for that matter, and chain the animal up with no food or water.
Mans best friend!
I hope the owners of that dog whoever they were, get some of their care for him returned to them!
Sorry to lay this on you guys, but its still bothering me, and I thought if I typed it out I'd feel better, but I don't!
Have a Nice, Day or Night Whatever! Ryan

It does kinda strike the wrong chord. I get horribly upset with such instances. Fortunately for you, the Humane Society does get considerable support in funding and they have a proper program for getting lost/abused/neglected animals back into the world.
Here by us, the SPCA doesn't get any support from government. So they rely heavily on funding from the public.
But I share your distraught and belief. People that can't care for an animal shouldn't take it in. And the penalty for such doings should be extremely harsh.
So there are wild animals all over the place and you pity the one that can't take care of itself. There should still be this years young strolling about, easy kill even for a creature new to hunting. FFS, how hard can it be to outwit a fcuking turkey? They say pets are like their owners, this one was obviously reared by liberals. It can't look after itself and is looking for state handouts. If it had made better choices in life it would not be in this situation. Maybe if it had buried a bone somewhere earlier (read saved/invested for the future) it would have been better able to cope.[/Riser]
Seriously though, you should have taken a spade to the back of its head.[/that should piss off SS]
Really seriously though, I'd never seen a deer in the wild until last night. Two fawns came from nowhere and ran straight out in front of me. This is in a quite built up area, Hebden Bridge. I managed not to hit either of them.
yes, cruelty like that is wrong and if america is anything like here the laws won't be strict enough. it is my opinion that the punishment for similar neglect and cruelty of humans should be applied to animal cruelty as well.
i live in a fairly rural setting not too far from wooded areas and deer, rabbits/hares and other animals are always close by and i would never do naything to harm them or wish any harm to come to them.
However, ryan. if you knew who the owners were, would you call the police or would you kidnap and lock them up in the same conditions as that dog was likely to have been kept?
Loving owners would even have his name and address on his collar!
My dog has such a collar, but only wears it on walks, and we don't use a leash. But I did spend a year training her. I could leave the gate open and she'd stand at the opening until I said it was ok to come out. We bread them for us and it is our responsibility to care for them. There used to be a couple on my rt that had a big, beautiful, fenced in yard yet kept their 2 labs in a small fenced in area in the far back corner. Losers.

Actually I took my pistol out to end it for the dog, but couldn't pull the trigger, had to previously put down a dog that crawled under my truck and I didn't know he was there and backed over him and broke his back, had to put that one down and had nightmares about doing it for weeks afterwards, I felt calling and involving the Sheriff would be a better chance for his survival, if that was possible.
I didn't want to go through that again!
I'm glad you missed the Deer, people have been killed by Deer going through the windshield, unfortunately its a common thing where we live.
