I know this probably has been discussed many times however since prices for older tech are plumetting (IE u can get a mobo and a 3000+ processor on newegg for under 100 bucks) i was wondering which you guys would recommend? I want at least a full usuable terabyte in raid 5 (meaning 5 x 320 GB minimum or 4 X 500). It will be used for media and the like so speed isnt that big of an issue unless the media is HD. A nas doesnt seem to be much cheaper if at all cheaper than building your own data server and data servers have faster speeds. Give me your recommendations please! Lets say a upper upper limit of spending is $1.5K and ideally spend $1K

NAS units with built-in controllers will cost more, but will have the advantage of not having to rely on a MB controller that may or may not be the controller you choose for your next MB.

THG (and other sites) have done some excellent reviews on NAS units.

They will cost more, but you get what you pay for.
