Well it's that time again, i'm upgrading some parts of my PC.

Which GFX card to go for though...

7900GT or 7900GS?

Oh and will a single card be better than my two 6600GT's ?

ewww ebay video cards -I prefer newegg :)

I wish i could buy new, i can't work for another 9 months due to a car accident.

So i have to buy used at the moment, well... or wait ages and save up.

Glad to hear the card is overclockable. I like to OC and i'm also upgrading my CPU and Motherboard; E6300 and Gigabyte 965P-DS4. Then my spare parts are going into my HTPC.

Both 7900gs and gt will destroy two 6600gt in sli

My recommendation is the 7900 gs unless you find a great deal on the 7900gt
I went with the leadtek 7900gs from one 6600gt
very overclockable card Paid 230$ cdn
check out this review
http://www.anandtech.com/video/showdoc.aspx?i=2835

I can overclock to 560mhz core and 790mhz on the memory which makes it faster than most 7900gt's!!

Great card

Argh!

I'm bidding upto £100 on the 7900GT which is second hand and now i've just found a 7900GS New for £100!

But it does seem the 7900GT has four more pipelines and Core Clock: 450Mhz / Memory Clock: 1320 Mhz

The 7900GS in question has 20 pipelines and Core Clock: 500Mhz / Memory Clock : 1400Mhz

Surely though i would be able to overclock the 7900GT to the same clocks speed as the 7900GS and still beneift from the extra pipelines... unless i can unlock the pipelines in the 7900GS?

Don't worry the 7900gt can still overclock it's a matter of what manufacturer made the card
the extra pipelines im sure will help
have fun with what ever you end up with !!

by the way If you looked at that link earlier on it wasn't good. it's fixed now

Thanks very much :)

Will have a read through the review in abit. The card manufacture of the 7900GS is Gainward Bliss and the 7900GT is Pine Tech XFX.

awww well now i feel kinda bad that i kinda badmouthed your medium of purchase knowing that you've been in a car accident ><. I just reacted that way because earlier that day I'd seen a bad card that someone bought on ebay that was some damaged goods. hey whatever works, don't let my personal bias get in the way

P.S Get well soon.

oh well if it is a Gainward 7900GS+ i've heard that they are basically 7900GT's although that might have been an AGP card I was thinking about (I dont know i can't remember stuff from 2 days ago at 1am!!). anyways if it is a 7900GS+ that might be a little bit better deal in terms of price/performance (although i heard they were very rare, I don't really know I live in the US and we don't have gainward over here so far I know.)

Thanks! You were not to know anyway, i don't exactly have it in my sig :p

Well now after reading everyones advice, i've changed mind again. I got outbid on the 7900GT which i was happy about and have obtained some more funds...

I found a Galaxy 7950GT for £150 - so i can't resist, ordered it yesterday and should have it before new year :D

I know Galaxy are not the best of makes. But to be fair i think they are very good value for money, my two 6600GT's have been fine so i'm contempt with the make. Also most other makes with the same spec are £50-100 more expensive. This one also comes with a Zalman cooler.

7900gt is better in performance and 7900gs is better in term of value.

personally i recommand 7900gs because of its price/performance ratio~

well im my personal experience the 7900gt is a nice card and overclocks very well mine is overclocked to 612/961 and if you want to push it more ive seen a lots of guides of how to voltmod and flash the 7900gt and reach the levels or near levels of the 7900gtx but i havent tried it personally so i cant tell about that , and about the 7900gs i havent tried it but i have heard that they are good overclockers too and well hope you get well and have luck with your choice!!!
