Hello, some of my housemates are moving out and taking their router/modem with them so I’m in need of a new one. I do a fair bit of online gaming and use bittorrents. After looking on this site I thought I would give the D-Link DGL-4300 a try. I need a separate modem and I don’t have any experience in setting this up. I found D-Link DSL-300T ADSL Modem as one of the few modems I could find that don’t use usb connections. However it says it can be used as a bridge or 1 port router would this mean it would just get overloaded with all the connections form torrents etc that is why I’m getting the D-Link DGL-4300 in the first place? Or am I getting that all wrong.

Perhaps someone could suggest a simple modem I can use. Also so you know I’m in the UK. I’m always researching products and finding something I like just to find out it isn’t available here.

Thanks
Mark

P2P software has a tendency to grab and use all resources available if you don't restrict it. Besides being a great security risk.

Can't help you on the modem, I'm on cable (Linksys), been good for over 4 yrs now.

i would suggest you stay with a DLink. I am not to fond of Linksys products. The admin interfaces for the DLink products are great and have served me great throughtout the years. All and all though like Blue said it really doesnt matter, all P2P software hogs resources unless you limit it with settings. Just comes down to a matter or taste.
