Hi

This is the first time i'm going to build my own computer and I would appreciate your suggestions and comments regarding my choices:

ABIT AB9 Pro - Core 2 Duo - $215
Intel Core 2 Duo E6400 2.13Ghz box 2mb 1066 - $345
512MB Gainward PCI-Express GF 7900GS TV/DVI VGA Card - $322
1Gb (2x512MB) - TwinX XMS2 Corsair PC800 DDR2 Memory Module - $227
Coolermaster Centurion Mystique Blk Case w/o PSU - $200
160Gb 7200rpm 8Mb Buffer - Seagate SATA2 Hard Drive - $95
580W - Hyper Power Hi End ATX PSU - $116

This comes to around $1500 and I would prefer it if I could be able to bring the budget down.

Thanks

Your opinions?

Looks nice, but your prices seem odd.

That GPU is worth half the price, don't pay that much for it! X1950XT is faster and cheaper, at $240.

You are paying $200+ for 1GB of memory? Mate, you could find 2GB for that much!

You can also get a Seagate 320GB hard drive for that much.

Where might you be shopping?

Good component choices, though.

Agreed, pricing is a bit off. What country are you in and where are you shopping?

Also, do you plan on overclocking your system? If so, then you're good to go. If not, a number of your parts are OVERKILL and you can easily cut the budget by $300 probably.

I personaly like Ocz and antec PSU... I like that you are getting a good case... will it fit a 8800GTX? You might upgrade someday and it would be nice not to replace such a nice case

I live in Malta and those are the cheapest prices around. I would probably buy the graphics card, hard disk and memory online though .. Anyone know any good online websites which ship internationally?

Oh and btw, i'm not really planning to overclock the system that much so if u think i can choose some other parts feel free to recommend

You need 2GB of RAM, and that poxy little hard drive is too small and too slow. Don't be under any illusions, XP needs that extra gig.

For HDDs - bigger = faster. And faster is better.

How about the Gigabyte DS3? It is cheaper, but won't overclock as far.

Mobius: lol, XP needs two gigs? I think you mean, only extremely intensive games.

Too small, too slow? What?! Maybe he doesn't need 400GB of storage. Speed? Hardly, 7200RPM is the standard.

Yeah i'm not going to use more than moe than 16gb of storage and 1gb of ram is fine enough for me.

Any good websites which i can use?

That case is WAY too expensive... Coolermaster makes decent cases for $50.

Western Digital has good SE HDDs for less as well if you can get them in Malta... there around $70 here in the states for 250GB

I would certainly attemp to find an alternative e-store that will ship to your area...

Google the crap out of that one :?

How does this sound?:
Gigabyte DS3 - $130
Intel Core 2 E6400 $220..
Sapphire radeon X900GT - $150
2GB (1x1024MB) - Corsair/OCZ/Super Talent - 200 - 250
$200 for a case? 8O All that really matters is good air flow and you can get one with that for about $50..
Seagate Barracude 7200.10 250GB - $80
Ultra X-Finity 500W - On sale for $30 at radioshack.com

Total price: About $900

It is generaly agreed by most tech's that having only 1 gig HINDERS xp proformance. You Need at least 2 gigs.

And the best place to shop and build a system oin line is NEWEGG.COM the prices are reasonable to and so is the shipping.

1 gig works fine for windows, but yes 2 gigs are better.

and the shipping to malta is not reasonable as new egg doesnt ship
outside of the u.s.

Please. I've seen so many systems with only 1GB of memory. I am not saying that it won't help, but it certainly won't "hinder" it. Hell,I'm using an XP System with 512MB of memory! It will NOT hinder it. 2GB is better, but 1GB is fine when someone is under a budget.

However, I think you can squeeze in 2GB, if possible. Quantity over speed. Get 2GB of DDR2-667 then 1GB of DDR2-800.

Ok, so i'm sure on the following stuff:

Gigabyte GA-965P-DS3
Intel Core 2 Duo E6400 2.13Ghz box 2mb 1066
512MB Gainward PCI-Express GF 7900GS TV/DVI VGA Card
1Gb (2x512MB) - TwinX XMS2 Corsair PC800 DDR2 Memory Module OR TWIN2X2048-5400C4
160Gb 7200rpm 8Mb Buffer - Seagate SATA2 Hard Drive
580W - Hyper Power Hi End ATX PSU

For the case, does anyone know of any cheaper cases than the cooler master mystique?

Thanks

Sure there are cases cheaper! Just a question of your budget and aesthetic preferences. Mid tower or full?

Thermaltake has some nice cases for affordable prices.

Thats all very good build... good RAM as well... C4's nice!

Since you are in another Country we cannot be certain of price comparisons for you... How much is the Mystique where you found it?

We can at least gawk at the price if it is too high :p
