So I have this lenovo ideacentre B540 All-in-one that originally came with Windows 7. The customer bought it at best buy and it came with a free upgrade to Windows 8 when it came out. So the customer was using it with Windows 8 until he got some FBI porn virus on there. I was hired to reload windows 8 and have it dual boot with ubuntu. I put the windows 8 disc in, format the 1TB drive and leave about 200GB for ubuntu. windows 8 is setup and done.

i can no longer get this thing to do anything other than boot windows 8. cant get into BIOS, cant get a boot menu, can't boot from CD/DVD or USB through the windows 8 restart menu thing. what an abomination. any help?

More about : dual boot win ubuntu

No offense, but are you qualified to be doing this? If I were paying you to do this to my computer and I found out that you had to go ask a message board how to do it after getting my computer into a state you weren't able to recover from, I'd be furious.

    try one of these:

    - hold down the shift key when you hit restart
    - run shutdown.exe /o
    - try pc settings->general ->Advance startup

    I think some people disable fastboot if they want to dual boot OS versions

    What would you suggest as the minimum qualification to install dual boot? Windows 8 has new features, secure boot, ... they can trick you up. Better to ask a question and get pointed in the correct direction than waste time scratching your head.

    You might get furious, that's a personal problem. I would suspect if you are like me you would not hire anyone to work on your personal machine anyway.
