Wireless Gaming

How is playing mulitplayer games (HL2, CSS etc) when connected with a wireless router/adapter?

Im getting a new gaming rig, and was going to put it in my room, but my room is down in the basement and the modem is on the main floor, so i was going to go wireless. i know it is not going to be as fast as a hard wired system, but is the performance that noticable for the hassle it is to run wires through the walls n roof??

Linksys wireless router 802.11g 2.4Ghz with speedbooster and pci adapter with speedbooster

there is another gaming rig in the basement so...will it cut down on the performance? (using more bandwidth, decreasing signal strength) the rest of the computers in the house will be hardwired into the router
