Somehow my serial communications under Windows 2000 has become
corrupted. My serial ports are no longer able to detect any
activity on attached devices that signal to the computer over
serial. What is the best method for re-installing my serial
ports from scratch and making sure the drivers are the most
recent for Windows 2000?

Check the mobo or pc manufacturer's web site for the latest system bios.
Check that the hardware ports are set to "auto" in cmos setup.
