I almost always have the volume off, I had it on today and BAM, a talking ad
on the top of the screen.
Yuck!

Yet one more reason to play with no volume.

Ugh. Thank the gods for Maxthon & Firefox...

I think this might be the end of neopets for me. I am just not willing to
listen to an ad over and over again which is what is happening to me right
now.

Ads? Neopets has ads?

Being serious for a second, why not just block them?

That's certainly what I would do. Firefox with Adblock works for me!

I have the banner ad blocked. I couldn't work out how to do the other ones.
I can't use an alternate browser either. Neopets is so intent on getting the
most money for each of my page views that I think they have lost all of them
now.

I use IE for neopets.

I use Zone Alarm Pro to block ads and cookies and stuff and also have
the google toolbar set to block popups as the option is there although
but I am pretty sure ZAP does that too, as does IE itself.

I also have a bit of CSS code on the root of my C: drive that makes the
space used for the adverts vanish, not idea how it works as I just
followed the instructions from a post here some months ago.

So I never see an ad, never see a popup and don't have the ad space at
the top of the Neopets page - all with IE.

I have all those things and the only adverts I have gotten rid of is the one
at the top. I don't know how to get rid of the bottom one. I don't get
pop-ups. The ad that talks is not a pop-up.

I don't get any bottom ads ever apart from about a month ago when
suddenly I started getting one for the Crazy Frog. To get rid of this
one I had to tell Zone Alarm explicitly to block ads from the advert's
source site.

No idea why the general settings failed to block it though but I haven't
seen that one, or any other, since.

Just a final thought, I also have a HOSTS file as that helps block ads
too and I got mine from this site -

http://www.mvps.org/winhelp2002/hosts.htm

and for XP you need to put it in C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\DRIVERS\ETC

Well I did that. I suppose I should have done the hosts file earlier but I
am still feeling very annoyed with Neopets.

I totally understand, and at the risk of talking for others, I think we
all do, and agree with you.

The whole marketing genius behind Neopets was supposed to be immersive
advertising, not obnoxious in-your-face ads. Did somebody there not get
the memo, or what?

Funny thing about my HOSTS file. I have it where you say to put it, and it
helps IE but not the Mozilla that I really like to use. And yet even with
contacting all the stupid sites, Mozilla is still quicker at loading pages
than IE that doesn't contact the stupid sites. I bet if I could ever figure
out how the HOSTS file worked for Mozilla, I could fly through Neopets just
like the Blue Shoyru that zooms over Neopia, looking for people who haven't
had their fair share of random events. :)

And I haven't had an ad talk to me that I know of. But I have the volume
Muted most of the time. And I still turn off the sound on games.
