I finally sold the Asus mobo and weak 2.93ghz non-HT P4 out of my Compaq.

I'm about to order:
Opty 165
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] 6819103588
Biostar mobo
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] 6813138264

What else do I need to get my PC up and running again?

Thermal paste? What brand? Arctic Silver?

Do I need one of those anti-static wrist bands?

I have 2 SATA drives, one with XP on it...will it start up just fine with the new mobo/CPU?

Anything else?

Do I need one of those anti-static wrist bands? Not really but its a good idea, that it is.

Two hands and a good set of eyes.

Really, you should have all you need. You may need a Phillips and a flathead screwdriver, but you should be pretty set.

A hammer, chisel, plasma cutter and mig welder.

Great, so now I need to backup 100gbs. Better safe than sorry.

Thanks for that reccommendation.

So...I install the CPU/mobo, then reboot XP using F10?

What do you think of this Asus board compared to the BioStar?
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] 6813131570

It has 1394 over the Biostar, more SATA ports, better video/audio, and dual monitor outputs. Does it overclock decently?

Not reboot. Reinstallation. Just added the conflicting motherboard drivers will cause too much trouble for most users. That and its the better idea.

Yeah, that's what I meant. My Compaq didn't come with XP on a disc so I re-install through F10 or F4...one of those.

Yeah, Compaq, HP, Dell, etc, all pre-load XP (and a ton of crap) on a recovery partition because it's evidently much cheaper for them than to include a full copy on a disc.

I'm not impressed. That's probably because I know how to make pretty welds with a Lincoln buzzbox. MIG is too easy. TIG is more of an art, but rarely used for normal jobs.

The thing that they drummed into me was the continuous bead. Boy was that a bitch to get right.

Fast freeze electrodes, whip and pause, whip and pause, looks like a fatter TIG weld if done correctly.
