webcam / sound

Hi

I use yahoo messenger to talk to my family. Last week I bought a webcam
which works great - the next step we said was sound. So I bought a mic,
arrived today. Firstly, how do I know it works (haven't heard a peep yet)?
I've tried using it in windows sound recorder and every other application I
can think of but no joy. Secoundly, can I use both webcam and send sound
using yahoo messenger?

Hope you can help as I think this mic is broken.

Check your sound settings in Windows. It has a habit of muting the mic.
you may have to make sure it 'turns it on'
