i have a windows xp machine. both video card and monitor are not HDCP capable. i wish to replace the video card with the HDCP capable geforce 8800 GTS.

do i need a new HDCP monitor to view 1080p avi or wmv files?

If your file 'REQUIRES' HDCP handshake, then You will need both an HDCP card and monitor to display protected content. However some of the content doesn't require that, and some can have it removed. :twisted:

But for protected content the basic answer is you need both.
