Hey ppl,

The Geforce 7600GT in my sig died yesterday, so I went out and got an ATI X1900GT (my other options were cards which performed worse than my 7600GT, or they were out of stock at any place that was open). I ran the card for awhile and noticed the load temp was hitting 75C, and the idle temp was between 50 - 52C, but it takes a long time to get back down to 50C.... almost 10 minutes.

Is this around the normal temp range for this card? I don't know the thermal ranges of ATI cards because I've never used one and never bought them for friends or family.

Note: The X1900GT I got was a non-branded card.

I purchased a x1900 gt prior to getting my first x1950 pro... the temperature on the gt had me nervous, too. But... apparently it is normal for the card.

The x1950 pro had just come out, so I did an exchange. It runs much cooler and was similar in price.

My Sapphire X1900XT 256mb gets up to 90°C when gaming... Although this is very hot for hardware, i've read that this shouldn't pose any problems. But to be honest, i'm not sure either. (can anyone confirm?)

Anyway, 70° surely isnt bad. However, if you want to get the temp down, just buy an extra cooler or use ATI Tool to manually set the fan. Be warned, the latter might turn your cooler into a Chinook.

Thanks for the replies everyone. I am going to be getting another Zalman VF900CU (I bought one before and put it on my 6800GT, then sold it along with an old computer to my sister) and putting it on here tomorrow. Good to know that the temp range is normal and that it won't be damaging the card....

It seems kind of common, the OP in the link says his card is hot, mine works constantly at 50c after 50 minutes of ATItools artifact scan at 640mhz core, 1.6ghz mem. It's the ICEQ3 cooling HIS put on it :D It seems quite cool to me
