I'm about to throw this computer off a very tall building.... I keep getting
the following when I try to access my CD-RW drive:
E:\is not accessible
The network request is not supported
It's a Pentium 4, 2.8 with a Sony CDX-160/E CD-RW, running Windows 2000
Professional. I do have Windows Media Player 9, and it plays an audio CD just
fine.

Another problem - if I try to use the DVD-RW for the CD, when I click on the
drive, it says:
The disc is not formatted. Would you like to format it?
Yes, I reinstalled Windows 2000 Professional and was able to install Norton
System Works 2005 from the CD.... and after that, it won't work!
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Open MyComputer and verify that Drive E is not supposed to be
a mapped, network drive. It should not be, assuming that the
re-installation of Windows 2000 Professional was a clean one
from an original, retail version of Windows 2000 Pro. If, OTOH,
a "private" recovery disk image was used, then who knows what
Drive E is attempting to reference. This would result in a
shift of drive letters for all subsequent drives by one. Tried
using Drive F for accessing the CD-RW and DVD?

Yes, it's a retail version of Windows 2000 Professional. I clicked on the E:
drive and then checked "Properties." I then clicked on the "Sharing" tab and
made sure it was not set to "Share." I then had it re-install the driver for
the CD-RW.... still the same error message. When I click on the "General" tab
in "Properties" it correctly tells me it's a Sony CRX-160 drive, and that it
is operating correctly. On the advice of another "guru" I did change the
cable to a brand new cable. And I also double checked the jumper settings on
the back of the drive to make sure they were correct.
I also downloaded "Drive Check" from the Sony web site and ran it. The drive
passes all their tests for read and write.

I forgot to answer the other part of the question.... the DVD drive will not
play a DVD because I can't load the WinDVD program. When I try to run a CD in
the DVD drive, the message I get is: "The disk is not formatted. Format now?"
I'm going to try to find a program to run a DVD online and install it and see
if that works.
