Hi - In the UK the Dell X30 us currently reduced on the Dell site to
£215. That's beginning to tempt me away from my Palm T3, which has a
dying battery.
I've never had a PPC, nut can see the writing on the wall re Palm, and
with the battery on the way out this seems maybe a good time to
change.
So, a few newby questions I'm afraid.
I'm concerned that with PPC 2005 coming out in a while, will the Dell
X30 be upgradeable to PPC 2005?
With the X30 not being VGA, would I be buying dead duck already i.e.
technology on the way out?
What's the X30 like as a performer? I've read several reviews, but I'm
keen to hear from people here that have used or have one already.
I have a lot of ebooks on my Palm. Is it possible to convert PDB
ebooks into PPC format. I don't want to lose access to my books, so
any thoughts?
Would I be being a silly bugger buying a Dell X30? The price seems
very good until March 30th only.

I just switched from many years of using a Palm to PPC. Latest Palm was a
m515.

Highly unlikely. From what I've read, most brands do not offer an upgrade.

That depends on what you want. In January I purchased the X50. Not VGA, but
nothing I run requires VGA, and I'm perfectly happy saving the extra money
to have the QVGA (or whatever it is).

Don't know that one, as mine is the X50.

Totally compatible. If you are talking about the pdb format sold by
ereader.com. All my ebooks transferred over, and I use ereader pro for PPC.
It's one format for both platforms.

If it's what you want, then that remains up to you.
All data on my Palm transferred over. It was a very easy process. Sync Palm
to Outlook, then sync Outlook to PPC.

If you have purchased your eBooks in Mobipocket format, you can
transfer them on your PDA or Smartphone (Palm, PocketPC, Symbian,
....).

I recently purchased an X30 from www.totalpda.co.uk (they are b grade
so you get the fast 627mhz one for about 169 (with 9 month warrenty).
Looks great, syncs well, bluetooths superbly. Will be trying the WI-FI
tonight but have full faith in it. You can make the screen landscape,
so its really usefull.
I would reccomend getting one, but dont forget the fantastic 1gb SD
Card for backup!!

Hi - I was the original poster. My NG message was about three weeks
ago. I did get the X30, but got it direct from Dell as they were doing
a deal at the time for the X30high at £215 inc VAT and delivery, which
is darn good considering your Dell at www.totalpda.com was £169 plus
VAT (total £198) for a refurbished plus their delivery cost makes it
£216.20 you paid (I checked the site).
Well pleased with mine.
