I want to run all current and future games at 60 fps with max settings, and id like to know if my CPU will be able to run a 8800 at 60 fps??

Anything more then that will be a waste of resources with my monitor at 60Hz. Games like Crysis and CnC3 and Supream Commander

that AMD64 x2 4600+ would bottle neck a 8800gtx, but depending on what resolution you plan a playing i dont think you would have a problem runing your games at 60fps

Yes.

Pretty much all CPUs hold back the 8800. A 4600+ is a solid CPU. Won't be a problem.

Like the rest said it will bottle neck your card, i got an E6400 and 8800GTS and when at stock speeds of 2.13ghz i got 11k in 3dmark05 when i OCed the E6400 to 3.2ghz giving me 400mhz FSB i got 17k in 3dmark05 thats a whopping 6k difference.

Please stop using a 3 year old benchmark to compare performance. Tell us about gaming performance!

What do i need to tell you? i get 100FPS in batttlefield 2, 60-70 in company of heros, and 100+ in HL 2/CS:S, im not going to bother running it on 1066 snice i have already OCed..... i just used 3dmark05 because its fast and can give u an estimate.

Bah, dont worry about Prozac. He and a few others around here seem to think that 3dmark is just a penis measuring tool :roll:

Lets say someone with an 8800GTX only scores 5k marks in 3dmark 05, I guess he is not supposed to worry that something is wrong with his system somewhere :roll:

There is nothing wrong with 3dmark. It gives you a nice ball park figure of your systems performance. Of course you should still bench mark games and such but their is certainly nothing wrong with running 3dmark.

I think you missed Prozac's point, RobX2.

He's saying that ANYTHING will bottlneck an 8800, so pretty much any CPU will work well with it.

Basically he was indicating that 3dmark scores aren't that important.
I don't think he was commenting on anyone's e-penis...

I didnt miss his point at all as when it comes to anything related to 3dmark he usually never has one. If anything you have missed my point.

He might not have specifically mentioned e-penis in this thread but he has done it plenty of times in others when reffering anything to do with 3dmark. Dont make me go and dig up the threads :lol:

It will eat games alive except Oblivion at that res, which will probably dip pretty low on FPS in outdoor area.

You hit it right on the nail. On my friends system with an 8800GTX Oblivion runs well outside up to 1680X1050 with everything maxed in game + 4XAA and 16XAF with HDR.

His low's outside are just around 38fps which all things considering are still darn good. :wink:


Me on the other hand with my monitor only going to 1280X1024 I get lows of 45-48fps in the same scenarios where he gets 38fps.


I am looking into getting a new monitor soon that supports 1680X1050 because it seems to be the 8800GTX's sweet spot for gaming.
