Thermal Pad's??

Ok I had a Zalman 7700 but I had to sell it to a buddy because he also bought my Prescott 650 and it needed that Zalman more than my E6300. So I ordered this Artic Cooler 7 Pro and it says it has pre-applied MX-1 Paste on it.
Do I need to still put thermal compound on it? I really dont feel like spending $10 on .8cc's of Artic Silver. I have a large tube of cheap thermal compound and I was just wondering If i should put it on or leave the MX-1 paste on there? Thanx in Advance

It's been shown that the AC Freezer Series works best with the pre-applied MX-1 compound. You certainly don't want to add any additional compound or pads to the pre-applied stuff.

I just wanted to make sure I completely understood what you meant in this picture is shows the pad so what your saying is to just put this HSF as is on my brand new cpu with no compound right?I've never messed with thermal pads before.

Yes. You just have to remove the clear plastic cover that is used to protect the paste (it's not a pad) while being shipped in it's package. The instructions that come with the cooler are pretty self explanatory so you shouldn't have any problems.
