Problems upgrading Athlon XP 1800 to Semp 3000 on GA-7VAX

I'm currently running the following equipment:

Gigabyte GA-7VAX
AMD Athlon XP 1900, 133 FSB, 11.5x
Corsair XMS PC3200, 512MB x2
Thermalright SI-97 heatsink
updated bios to F13 (most recent) which is supposed to add sempron support

Everything running smoothly, temps aroung 32 during Prime95 torture test.

I tried to upgrade my processor to a sempron 3000 and got no post, no beeps. Drives and all fans spin up, monitor stays on standby... This is w/ SW1 set to 166 and SW2 set to auto or 12x, neither setting will get a post.

Swapped the old Athlon XP back in and it's back to pristine performance.

Tried to install the Sempron again, this time reset CMOS, still nothing. Tried to boot with SW1 set to 133, same thing. But after I put the Athlon XP back in everything POSTs and boot perfectly.

Does this indicate a bad CPU that needs an RMA, or do I need to try something else?

Would there be any use to reflashing the F13 bios?

Thanks,
Sean

Is the specific CPU supported on the Gigabyte compatibility page, it may not be compatible with the older motherboard.

If it is I would suggest it may be a faulty CPU.

According to Gigabyte's website it supports Sempron 3000+ at 333Mhz with the F13 bios revision. I've RMA'd it already and have my fingers crossed that the replacement will work.
