I have a C2D on a Gigabyte DS3 with on-board LAN that I've been using (a Marvel Yukon controller), and got a Linksys LNE100TX for $8. I'm not sure if I'll notice any difference in performance, but thought I'd try.
I installed the card, updated the drivers from the included CD, and the damn thing refuses to connect to my router/cable modem. I tried downloading the newest Linksys driver for the modem, but using the device manager and trying to update the driver using the new download fails to work, and the device manger says that it failed to find a newer driver.
I uninstalled the driver, and tried again, and it still fails to connect. I tried bypassing the router and plugging straight into the modem, same thing.
I also thought it might be a conflict between the on board lan and the pci card, so I disabled the yukon in bios, and still no go.
I'm not sure what else to try, and am wondering if the card is broken. though the device manager claims the card is working properly, and the lights on the card are on.
EDIT, I forgot that I've also used a program from speedguide.net called TCP Optimizer, and am wondering if that perhaps messed with the registry in such a way that it expects a particular NIC (namely the marvel yukon). Could that be a prob?
Where did you get the card? Maybe it's bad.
You won't notice any difference even if it does work.
TCP Optimizers sometimes hurt more than they help.......and it should have saved your default settings before modifying them. Have the program restore your default settings, then reinstall the new card, but I doubt that is the problem.
