After I replaced a CD device with a Samsung CD-R/RW SW-252F, it
spins fast for at least a full minute on every system startup.
This is annoying and I'd like to stop that behavior. Any clues
on how?

If you use Nero Express there is a tool for SPIN UP/SPIN DOWN times for the
drive. You could change the setting there.

Also, is there anything that maybe accessing the drive on startup? Something
like a Windows Installer in your TEMP directory etc.

On the Samsung website are also firmware updates.

What if you don't have a CD-ROM in the drive at startup? And once you are at the desktop and the system has settled down put a data only CD-ROM in (one that doesn't start automatically). Does the same behavior continue for a minute or longer?

It doesn't happen when there's no CD in the drive at startup and
ine is put in later (either kind - music or data). I'll see if
there are firmware updates for it and try them.

I was kind of wondering if there was a registry setting for the
spin up at startup. But I'll try the firmware update.

Thanks,

Rick

Nothing that I'm aware of; and there's no spyware or adware that
the detectors catch.

I'll try that; thanks.
