Hi, I am new to the forums :D

I have just started my Multimedia Technology and Design course at uni and have noticed my system struggle with running multiple applications and rendering 3d textures...
Im upgrading my Current rig over the next couple of weeks and would like some advice on the hardware... whether i am getting them at a good price or something of an equivalent price is better:

(I am also a medium/light gamer)

Current System:
AMD XP 2500 Barton
ASUS A7N8X-E DELUXE Motherboard
1GB DDR400 PC3200
Maxtor 300GB SATA 7200rpm
BFG 6600GT

New System:
AM2 Athlon 64 X2 5200+ - £330 with the motherboard below
ASUS M2N32SLI Deluxe Board
Samsung 2GB DDR2 PC2-5400 667mhz - £100
BFG 8800GTX - £360

Is that a single 2GB chip of RAM? If it is, you'd be way better off using 2x1GB chips in dual channel config.
If you're only a medium/light gamer, get a BFG 7950GT (or XFX 7950 if you're buying from scan.co.uk). The 8800 is seriously expensive because it's the latest and greatest, so it's economically better to get the card just below that.
The money you save with the lower graphics card you could use to get a Core 2 Duo.
