Hi All,

Firstly, I will like to say that I cross post this article to 2 newsgroups
because I do not know where does this belongs to.

We are looking for an inexpensive software that can monitor the system
resource of a Windows server. For example, we need to have a monthly or
daily graph of CPU and Memory Utilization. It should also be able to monitor
the uptime of a system. I have tested AdventNet Opmanager but I don't really
like it. Paessler PRTG has limited feature.

Therefore, can someone give me some ideas what software you used for
monitoring the system resource of a Windows server? Our budget is only
US$1000 only.

Thanks.

Best Regards,

WY

Hi Citimouse,

being one of the developers of PRTG I can tell you that you can easily
monitor CPU and memory of a Windows Server. The full solution including
a webserver for remote access is available below $50.

Look at this sample site:
http://www.paessler.com:8080/prtg.htm

it shows bandwidth, CPU and other stuff of a webserver.

All you need to do is to install Paessler SNMP Helper on the machine(s)
you want to monitor (SNMP Helper is a free part of the PRTG download).

Hi Dirk,

I did try to convince my management about using Paessler. However, the
freeware version only allows me to monitor one sensor which makes me
difficult to prove the usability of the software.

I do hope Paessler will consider letthe freeware to monitor more sensor,
like 5 so we IT admin can be in a better position to recommend such
inexpensive solution. IT budget are hard to come by these days though we are
an MNC (mini-national company)

There are free 30 days trial which overcome the freeware limitations
