More Information

Hello everyone,

I recently purchased a new desktop, Gateway (GT5228). I bought it fully intending to upgrade the graphics card from an Nvidia 6100 that came with it to a 7600 GT. It says on the box for the new card that the power supply must be 400W or higher. I think the machine has 350W if I read the bottom of the power supply correctly. My question is what (if anything) would happen if I were to put this card in? I have an old computer whose MOBO died (that's why I got the new rig) that has a 450W supply but there are alot more wires coming out of that PSU than the PSU in the new machine. I am fairly new to DIY computer repair and I think that switching those PSUs might be above my skill level at the moment.

I appreciate any advice you may have.

Thanks,
Andy
