Upgrading version of pocket pc on device?

Is it typically recomended to upgrade the version of pocket pc operating
system on a handheld device? My Dell Axim X5 came with Pocket PC Ver.
3.0.11171 (build 11178). Should I leave that be, or is it typically best to
try to update to a newer version on occation? If so, can you direct me to
where to get started. Thanks,

What stands out here is you only mention 'upgraded operating system',
no mention of the important bit, what your ppc does and what you use it
for, what applications you use and which don't quite do what you want,
and any problems you have with the machine. Anything that it would do
that it doesn't now?
No one can tell you if an upgrade is right for you, you need to look at
the changes -often called 'improvements' by MS, but these may not
actually be an improvement for you and your usage.Perhaps that should
be the first consideration? In addition to this have a look through the
newsgroup (and other pda forums) to research the subject of these
upgrades- you will find examples of things missing, things not working,
and other issues as well as people trying to get back to the original
OS. Other people are happy, most posters are generally those that have
or find problems so try and judge carefully.

Bottom line (from the way I see it) is what is it you are not happy
with now? Does an upgrade help improve this?
Unless you are one of those people that must have the newest version
number just because it is the newest version then research the
upgrades. If you are one of those people you will upgrade anyway,
whatever the potential issues and whatever anyone here may tell you.
(There is nothing wrong with those people, I'm sure most of us are like
that with some things, or have been like this at times).
