Hi. I need to connect a pc to my wireless network and wish to use a usb adapter to connect it. However the pc only has usb 1.1. Is this enough for just sharing an internet connection of 1MB?
Thanks

With the pc only having 1.1 means it's proably 4+ years old. With that said it will work. If at all possiable have it on it's own USB controller, most are in pairs. But if it's a 11b, it will negate any WPA security setup on your router.

There should not be any problems. Although is it fairly newer? (the usb adapter).... I had a early version of one that was absolutly terrible.

Let me reach way back to revive this old post... since nobody really answered the question I think the OP was asking, yes 1.1 is fast enough for a 1mbps Internet connection. USB 1.1 is 12mbps if memory serves, so there shouldn't be any issues there. I never heard of USB ports sharing the "bus" bandwidth, I thought the 12mbps was for each port, so if you had a pair of 2, then 24mbps between them?

I don't think that is necessarily true. If the router and the adaptor support WPA security/54G, stepping them down to 11b only will not negate the encryption. It will just run slower connected to a USB 1.1 port.

I understand it is not supported in the standard. However, I have seen routers and adaptors that are 11g with WPA, that if set up with WPA encryption will maintain that when set up to to run 11b only.

Is that legal according to the standard? Maybe not, but they do it anyway.
