I have a problem first when I log onto my computer it seems to hang. All I
see is a blue screen it also takes a long time to log off too. It seems to
hang on saving your setting. Help please.

There is a registry key you can set to disable save settings on exit, but it
doesn't speed up shutdown any (see bottom of this reply)

------------------------------

You should check what is running on startup for the reason why your computer
boots slowly.

Open the Registry Editor (Click START/RUN & type 'regedit' (without quotes &
press ENTER)

Navigate to:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run

and see what is running the the right-hand pane.

Click the REGISTRY menu, EXPORT REGISTRY FILE... & save a backup of your run
key

Now, in the right pane, remove messengers (may need disabling from
messengers TOOLS/OPTIONS menu)
Delete rubbish like Quicktime. If you see any suspicious entries like
'djfsiuhfsuyf' (example only) then be sure to delete those, as they could be
viruses, spyware, adware etc.
Always leave antivirus/firewall software running on startup.

-----------------------------------------------------------

Before you close the registry editor:
------------------------------------

Navigate to:

User Key:
----------

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explore
r

and

System Key:
------------

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explor
er

Create a new DWORD value 'NoSaveSettings' (no quotes) & set the value to 1

The 'User Key' is for the current user & 'System Key' for all users on that
computer.

I hope this helps

For the start up problem your PC may have some spyware/virus infection.

Check your system with an up to date antivirus.

As for spyware, check with something like SpyBot

http://www.safer-networking.org/en/download/index.html

The shutdown issues may also be caused by infection or spyware, however
try:

start
run
type
gpedit.msc

navigate to

Computer Configuration
Administrative Templates
System
Logon

Maximum retries to unload and update user profile ...

set enabled and to say 5 ... default if not configured is 60!!
